Aureum - a serif typeface
Aureum is a serif typeface that explores houseplants’ Victorian origins and references the common beginner houseplant pathos through its serifs and vine-like forms. Referencing Victorian typefaces, Aureum’s forms recall when potted plants first became widely popular in the 1800s. Combined with the serif are the forms of the popular houseplant pathos, a hardy vine plant anyone can grow with just water.
Aureum is part of Greenhouse, a senior thesis project by Anna Sing that explores houseplants’ history and relevance in a digital world through Latin typeface design. This thesis aims to bring greenery to our screens through four typeface designs that experiment with the body of letterforms, allowing anyone to water their page with bright typefaces.
